Dogtooth Tactical’s high capacity magazines are made from durable plastic and rust-resistant springs, but proper care and storage will still go a long way to preserving their quality. Here are a few tips for maintaining, cleaning, and storing your AR-15 mags.

Cleaning Your Dogtooth Tactical 50 Round AR 15 Magazine

Our high capacity mags can take a lot of wear and tear, but never cleaning them will still leave them in bad shape like any other magazine. How frequently you clean them also depends on how often you use them: if you’re a regular at the range, then regular cleaning is essential, but if you rarely use your gun, then cleaning and inspection may only need to happen once or twice a year, so long as they’re stored properly.

AR-15 Mag Cleaning Steps

  1. Empty the magazine and turn it upside down to remove the end plate, being careful with the compressed spring underneath. Make sure to keep the spring compressed as you slide the plate off, and then gently release it.
  2. Remove any loose debris within the magazine.
  3. Next take a soft rag, ideally a microfiber cloth, and wipe down the inside and outside of the magazine.
  4. Inspect the mag for any signs of wear, such as scratches or cracks. Use a flashlight to see inside of the magazine, and carefully examine the edges for chips, cracks, or other damage.
  5. If everything looks good, give the mag a final wipe down and reassemble it.

Tips for Storing Your AR-15 Mags

Even if you regularly clean your magazines, improper storage can still be detrimental to their long-term performance and durability. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when it comes to storing any of your magazines:

  • Store your mags in a cool, dry place that is well ventilated
  • Always check for damage before storing them.
  • Any magazine should be stored out of direct sunlight or anywhere they could potentially be exposed to moisture (Dogtooth Tactical’s 50 round AR 15 magazine is made with rust-resistant stainless steel springs, but proper storage will still help with maintaining those springs!)
  • Consider putting a dust cover on the magazine to keep out dust and debris
  • Organize your mags in a sturdy pouch or case. While it wouldn’t have to be a case dedicated to holding magazines, these are always excellent for keeping them safe and protected.
