Dogtooth Tactical wasn’t just founded by gun enthusiasts who wanted to make the products that they wanted to find on the market–our USA made company and brand was created by a National Guard veteran, during a conversation with his business partner on the problems with the market’s current accessories for AR-15 rifles.

The Story Behind Dogtooth Tactical

Steve Buchenroth’s Dogtooth’s owner served from 1987-1994 in the 122nd Fighter Wing at the Fort Wayne Air National Guard. He was a tactical weapons system officer in the F-4 Phantom, taking control of the weapons systems from the back seat. Steve is retired now, but he continues to fly and to give flying lessons on the side while running his businesses.

Every squadron in the Air Force had a patch, utilizing the primary aircraft they flew in. Those who flew in the F-4 Phantom not only had their F-4 Phantom plane in the logo, but also the Spook character uniquely positioned as part of the logo, making their squadron’s design distinct. The idea of the ‘Spook’ came from the enemy being spooked when the F-4 Phantom came out of nowhere at them, inspiring the logo and the character. The photo of Steve below shows the logo on the F-4 Phantom titled “THE PHABULOUS PHANTOM PHAREWELL” from January 1992.

In honor of his time with the National Guard and in honor of all of our country’s veterans, Dogtooth’s logo utilized that patch, with the F-4 Phantom in the background of the Spook, holding an AR-15 with a 50-round magazine. The pointed teeth on the F-4 Phantom plane is called the Dogtooth (the AR-15 barrel is pointing to one of them), and this is where the name Dogtooth Tactical came from.

Dogtooth Tactical is proud to be veteran owned and USA made. We are thankful for our military and our veterans who serve and defend our wonderful country, the land of the free. May we each defend that right and stand united.
